Local Companies Receive Top Honors at SE Bio Investor Forum
Two companies received major recognition at the SE Bio Investor Forum, held last week in downtown Charleston. The event is one of the nation’s premier life sciences venture capital forums, connecting investors with the Southeast’s most promising companies.
Mount Pleasant based Ion Surgical Technologies was the winner of the “Early Stage Shootout,” a competition where senior venture capitalists judge early stage companies on the quality of their presentation, the viability of their venture, and the overall fundability of the opportunity. The company has created new methods and products for arthroscopic ACL and rotator cuff repair as well as an interactive e-commerce distribution system.
The big winner was Restorative Physiology Group, a North Charleston company that is actively engaged in the design and development of minimally invasive implantable devices for treating diseases of the human spine. The company’s proprietary Thermal Method™ technology makes it possible to implant surgical devices that are significantly larger than the access required to place them. The company was the winner of the Bio/Plan Competition and received $100,000 to develop the technology. Founder and inventor, Dr. Michael Kitchen was also a winner this past February in the bio-science category of the New Ideas SC contest.
Four other South Carolina life science companies were chosen to present last week. They include Immunologix, Kiyatec, MicroVide and EpiEP.
Congratulations to all participants and winners! |
